Oracle and ICF Canada: High Performance Government-Vision for Smart Cities

Oracle and ICF Canada teamed up to host sessions in Mississauga, Ontario and Richmond, B.C. in October and early December to discuss experiences and opportunities for towns, cities and regions to rally around creating new ideas for their communities, especially to leverage possibilities that the Smart City Challenge, and other similar initiatives and incentives might offer. “It’s not about technology, its all about people”, said John Jung, ICF Canada’s Executive Director and Chairman of the international think tank, Intelligent Community Forum, headquartered in New York. “Its likely we all have similar challenges in our communities, from traffic congestion to pollution, and to issues related to climate change. Perhaps by rallying our communities and targeting our limited resources to work toward innovative solutions, enabled by technology, not only are these challenges able to be met in our communities but these innovations could be shared, perhaps through commercialization, among other communities in Canada and around the world”.

Oracle is an advanced database software and technology company specializing in cloud engineered systems and enterprise software products, such as machine learning and AI which communities may be able to utilize in coming up with their unique solutions. Oracle demonstrated some of these applications during the workshop. Thanks to Oracle’s Franco Amalfi for organizing these sessions and inviting ICF Canada to speak to the communities in attendance from Ontario and British Columbia.

ICF Canada would be pleased to work with other companies and communities to discuss new ideas for their communities. ICF Canada has developed a Speakers Bureau to help communities and regions to learn from current and former Intelligent Communities, especially from representatives from governments, institutions and companies involved in supporting their development and on-going improvements that help their citizens enjoy a higher quality of life.
