Intelligent Community presentation at Abat Oliba University in Barcelona

Taking advantage of the celebration in Barcelona of the Smart Cities World Congress on November 17, 2022, Augustin Argelich, principal consultant for Argelich Networks and a member of the international jury of the Intelligent Community of the Year awards, organized an event in Barcelona with the Masters in Digital Communication, New Technologies of Universitat Abat Oliba, and the Intelligent Community Forum to explain the methodology that ICF recommends to build more prosperous societies. It presented projects carried out in different parts of the world applying the six recommended indicators. The event attracted a significant audience at the magnificent Aula Magna of that Gaudinian Mannerist-style university, the work of Antonio Gaudi’s disciple, Bernardi Martorell i Puig.

Peter Portheine from the Eindhoven International Project Office (EIPO) and director of the Eindhoven Brainport Smart District explained the history of his city linked to Philips and how it recovered from the crisis of that company by applying the triple helix model. This model is based on collaboration between governments, companies, and knowledge (universities). Mr. Portheine is currently helping Asian and European cities and countries to develop. Among other cities, he advises the Vietnamese city of Bihn Duong, which has been recognized as a TOP7 Intelligent Community in 2021 and 2022. Alexander Schmidt, CEO and founder of BABLE, a German smart city consultancy, stressed the need to accelerate innovation and change in the face of challenges that Europe set itself to be neutral in CO2 emissions by 2050.
