Webinars covered:

  • Criteria and how to apply.
  • Challenge’s goals and processes.
  • Examples from across Canada about strategic partnerships being formed.
  • Why aligning the Challenge’s proposal with your community’s priorities is important.
  • How to construct a winning “Challenge Statement”.
  • What the opportunities are for First Nations to participate in the Challenge.
  • Where all of the information about the Smart Cities Challenge can be found.

ICF Canada, in partnership with Infrastructure Canada, hosted these two Webinar.

Five Panelists joined moderator, John G. Jung to discuss examples from across Canada in the English language edition on January 10 and another five panelists joined Laval Professor Sehl Mellouli in the French language Webinar on January 11. Communities interested in making an application on April 24 would benefit from hearing Gerard Peets, Executive Director, Infrastructure Canada, on the goals and process of the Challenge and from panelists from across Canada highlighting their experiences in rallying their communities behind a unique idea, strategic partnerships, and opportunities for First Nations in the Challenge. Audience members asked many questions, far more than could be answered within the hour-long Webinar. In fact, the English language Webinar was sold out and many people on a waiting list were unable to access the live presentation. Accordingly, these recordings will be their first opportunity to hear the panelists and Infrastructure Canada on this opportunity.

The English Language Panel, included:

  • Jordan Wapass, Executive Director, Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, Cornwall, Ontario;
  • Emilie de Rosenroll, Chief Executive Officer, South Island Prosperity Project, in the Greater Victoria Region, B.C.
  • Stéphane Guidoin, Directeur par interim, Bureau de la ville intelligente et numérique, Montreal, Quebec;
  •  Michael Baldwin, Assistant Director, Growth and Community Services, Fredericton, N.B.;
  • Gerard Peets, Executive Director, Smart Cities Challenge, Infrastructure Canada; and
  • John G. Jung, ICF Canada Executive Director and Chairman and Co-Founder, ICF (Moderator)

The French language Webinar included:

  • Marc Jeannotte, Co-Founder of Votepour.ca;
  • Eric Poirier, Director, Infrastructure Canada;
  • Josée Dallaire, Director General, Quebec Geomatic Centre Québec
  • Professor Stéphane Roche, Geographic Engineer; Laval University
  • Sehl Mellouli, Professor, Laval University, (Moderators); and
  • Gerard Peets, Director General, Smart Cities Challenge, Infrastructure Canada.

Thanks to Matt Owen at ICF for producing the two Webinars and posting the recordings.
